Celeb R.E.: Recently Divorced Natasha Henstridge Lists Sherman Oaks Home After 2 Year Occupancy

Images courtesy Berkshire Hathaway Home Services
The always informative, Lauren Beale, at LA Times Hot Property has just revealed that model-actress, Natasha Henstridge has just listed her Sherman Oaks home for $1.75 million on January 6, 2014. Henstridge purchased this home on June 3, 2011 for $1.3 million which was blogged about here. Speculation surrounding the reason for the sale after a short occupancy might be attributed to her divorce in July 2013 with her ex-husband, Darius Campbell, a singer-songwriter, stage actor, and author who were together since 2004 and wed in 2011.

Henstridge started her roots in modeling at the age of 15 in Paris. When she was 21, she made her film debut in the film series Species. She has gone on to appear in various TV shows and films and last year was in the TV movies, "A Sister's Nightmare" and "Cold Spring."

The home measures 4 Beds/4.5 Baths on 3,476 sqft on a total lot size of 8,770 sqft built in 1961. The listing description states:
Gated south of the boulevard celebrity owned architectural/modern masterpiece on one of Sherman Oaks most desired streets & neighborhoods & is close to shopping, dining & entertainment. Enter this magnificent home through the double door entry that lead to the foyer. Just off the foyer is a stylish den w French doors that lead to a tranquil Zen area. The living room has soaring exposed beam ceilings & expansive windows that drench the room in natural light, a fireplace, French doors to the back yard plus wood floors that run throughout much of this homes interior. Adjacent to the living room is an open & bright formal dining room w more French doors to the back yard. The Granite gourmet cooks kitchen has a large island that centers the room, stainless steel appliances including a Viking 6 burner stove, custom cabinetry plus a large eating area & more French door to the back yard. There?s a downstairs retreat w separate entrance (could be maids) plus 3 upstairs bedrooms including a master suite w/ high ceilings, 2 closets, skylights & full bath w spa tub, double sinks, vanity & separate shower. Large, grassy, gated & landscaped front & back yards & a pool w fountains, covered patio, sports court & lounging areas help complete this homes refined elegance.
If Henstridge were to sell at today's asking price, she stands to gain $450,000 before any expenses which isnt too bad for barely two years worth of living in the home. Her next residence is unknown but its quite possible that she may choose to live in Sherman Oaks again as she has purchased three other homes in the Sherman Oaks area within two blocks of each other as shown below in the map and a home in Malibu (not shown on the map).
  1. (Not shown on map) 560 Cold Canyon Road Malibu (up in the hills next to King Gillette Ranch Park); purchased on May 18, 1999 for $1,050,000 and later sold in 2000 for $1,270,000. It appears this house was shared with Liam Waite who was the father to her two sons but this is not confirmed. The house measures 3 Beds/3 Baths on 3,691 sqft on a total lot size of 1.73 acres built in 1982.
  2. (A) 13346 Valley Vista Blvd Sherman Oaks; purchased on April 20, 2000 for $700,000 and later sold in 2001 for $689,000 (thats odd, she took a loss when the Housing boom just started). The house measures 3 Beds/2 Baths on 2,180 sqft on a total lot size of 8,001 sqft built in 1950.
  3. (B) 14256 Greenleaf Street Sherman Oaks; purchased on December 29, 2000 for $1,760,000 and later sold in 2003 for $2,399,000. The house measures 4 Beds/7 Baths on 4,735 sqft built in 2000.
  4. (C)  14341 Millbrook Drive Sherman Oaks; purchased on December 16, 2003 for $1,360,000 and later sold in 2009 for $1,750,000. The house measures 5 Beds/5.25 Baths on 3,825 sqft on a total lot size of 0.45 acres built in 1935.
  5. (D) House currently for sale described in this post.

Celeb R.E.: Former NFL Star Marvel Smith Lists in Calabasas At A Loss Close to $400K

Images courtesy Berkshire Hathaway Home Services
Back on November 19, 2013, the always informative Lauren Beale at LA Times Hot Property revealed that former NFL offensive tackle star, Marvel Smith, listed his Calabasas home on November 12, 2013 for $1,825,000.

Smith who was born in Oakland attended Arizona State University where he was an All-American first-team selection in 1999, allowing only one sack all season. He was later drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2000 NFL draft. Smith was considered by many to be one of the most important players on the Steelers' offensive line but was unfortunately hampered by back injuries  in 2007 until his eventual retirement in 2009. Smith also won two Super Bowl rings with the Steelers. He last played for the San Francisco 49ers where Smith's contract was bought out for $10.5 million.

The home measures 5 Beds/5 Baths on 5,031 sqft on a total lot size of 0.31 acres built in 1992. The listing description states:
Beautiful Calabasas Park Estate home ideally located in a prestigious 24 hour guard gated community. Awaiting your arrival, this dramatic grand entry has soaring high ceilings and exquisite details. This desirable open floor plan is perfect for today's modern lifestyle. Large formal living room with fireplace. Spacious family room open to the gourmet kitchen which is fully appointed with granite, large island, S/S appliances and butler's pantry. Oversized formal dining room perfect for entertaining. Master suite with balcony overlooking backyard. Spa like master bath and large walk- in closet. Park like yard with complete privacy. Pebble Tec pool, spa, grassy yard and BBQ island. Detached guest house with bathroom and kitchenette. 3 car attached direct access garage. Award winning Las Virgenes schools! This home offers stunning custom finishes with a magnificent use of space. Live in style!
Smith originally purchased this property on May 30, 2006 for $2.2 million which means that if sold at today's asking price of $1,825,000 would generate a loss of $375K before any expenses and appears to possibly be a larger loss because the home has been sitting on the market for 35 days without any takers at the time of this writing. And I thought the housing market had fully recovered.

I am not sure why Smith originally chose Calabasas as his home or where he is headed off to next but hopefully he still continues to call the SFV home.

The Calabasas area is home to many celebrities, athletes, and famous execs as discussed in this blog listed below:
  1. Former Baseball Super Agent Dennis Gilbert lists home for $5,985,000 in May 2013.

Celeb R.E.: The Way Brothers of My Chemical Romance Each List Tarzana Homes Including One Linked To Lisa Kudrow

[Update January 22, 2014]: This home sold for $1,748,000 on November 21, 2013.

    [Original Post]:

Back on November 1, 2013, the always informative Lauren Beale at LAT Hot Property revealed that Gerard Way, lead singer-songwriter for My Chemical Romance and his wife, Lindsey Ann Way aka "Lyn-Z," bass player for Mindless Self Indulgence, have listed their Tarzana home on the market for $1.899 million back on October 30, 2013. The Ways purchased the home in June 15, 2012 for $1.355 million. So after barely living in the home for a year, the Ways have decided to move on. The home is currently in a pending status that if sells at the current asking price, the Ways stand to gain $544,000 before expenses which is damn good for a little over 12 months of living in the home.

The home measures 5 Beds/6 Baths on 4,803 sqft on a total lot size of 0.67 acres built in 1980. The listing description states:
This exquisite celebrity estate is located on a serene cul-de-sac off Vanalden Ave, S. of the Blvd. The 5 bed/7 ba character residence, tucked into a verdant setting, offers an open floor plan with rich hardwood floors, leaded glass windows & classic detailing. Guests can gather in the spacious great room with charming fireplace and towering ceilings or in the sunny family room, which leads to a lush garden/patio. The huge professional chef's kitchen with breakfast area is perfect for family & friends with its granite counters, center island & high-end stainless appliances. A formal dining room, large office and maid's quarters complete the lower level. Upstairs boasts 4 beds/baths including a stunning master suite with huge closets & en suite bath with sauna & steam areas. An enormous 2nd floor great room with wet bar, Murphy bed & FP provides another entertainment/sleep area. Entertain al fresco on the patio with outdoor BBQ area or relax by the sparkling pool & spa. Truly stunning!

Gerard's brother, Mike, who is also a member of My Chemical Romance as a bassist, is coincidentally or not selling his Tarzana home (shown above) using the same realtor. The home measures 4 Beds/3.5 Baths on 3,915 sqft on a total lot size of 0.49 acres built in 1956. The listing description states:
LA Times 'Hot Property'! This character home is located on a tranquil cul-de-sac S of the Blvd. Upon entry, the private celebrity estate with lush setting offers spectacular views. The charming living room welcomes guests with a fireplace, towering windows & rich hardwood floors. An open floor plan includes a spacious family room with high ceilings, wet bar & cozy fireplace. A formal dining room and a chef's kitchen with granite counters, center island & breakfast room combine to create a warm family-gathering space. On the lower level there are 3 bedrooms, one w/ remodeled bath, and a huge bonus room ideal as a media center. The upstairs Master retreat exudes warmth with its high ceilings, romantic FP, gracious windows & private balcony. Also featured: a huge walk-in closet & an en suite bath w/ sumptuous spa tub. Entertain al fresco on the covered patio with adjoining lawn, orchard, BBQ area & fire pit, or relax by the sparkling pool with its decks & marvelous views. Wilbur School.
Mike Way purchased this property on January 27, 2012 for $1,249,000 which is currently listed at $1,489,000. If sold at this price, Mike stands to gain $240,000 before any expenses which is just as impressive as his brother Gerard's potential gain for living in the home barely over 12 months.

While researching Mike Way's home in the property records found some interesting history. Mike purchased this home from Robin Prybil who is a visual effects executive with an associate producer credit for the film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Prybil purchased this home from an IT company called Poptech, LP based in West Palm Beach, Florida for $1,370,000 on August 30, 2006.

Poptech, LP purchased this home for $820,000 on August 8, 2002 from Lee (who is a world renowned headache doctor) and Nedra Kudrow who are the parents of Lisa Kudrow from the hit NBC sitcom, Friends. I was able to verify that the Kudrows have owned the home since at least 1993 but its possible they owned it much longer. If so, this may have been the childhood home of Lisa Kudrow considering that she had attended Gaspor de Portola Middle School located just down the street from this home and also Taft High School in nearby Woodland Hills.

This is all speculation at this point and its hard to verify this information because property records get sketchy and limited going back to the 70's which is when Lisa would have attended those schools, so dont quote me here. I can only hope this info is correct as this would be an amazing find and historical connection to one of the funniest actresses from a hit acclaimed and award winning TV show with a worldwide audience that had a cultural impact during its hey days in the 90's and into the mid 2000's.

Not sure why the Ways are in a coordinated move to unload their Tarzana homes but hopefully they continue to call the SFV home.

Celebrity R.E.: Rapper The Game Lists Glendale Home At A $101K Loss

    Images courtesy Rodeo Realty
Back on October 24, 2013, the always informative Lauren Beale at LA Times Hot Property revealed that the rapper known as the Game or Game who goes by the real name Jayceon Taylor has listed his Glendale home at a $101K loss for $1.799 million on October 15, 2013. The Game purchased this home on November 4, 2005 for $1.9 million near the peak of the last housing bubble.

The home measures 4 Beds/5 Baths on 4,667sqft on a total lot size of 0.31 acres built in 1958. The listing description states:
Incredible 4 bedroom, 5 bath home on one of the most desirable streets in Glendale. Approx. 4,667 sq ft with an open floor plan, gourmet kitchen with custom maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, marble countertops and center island. Incredible master suite with tons of closets and entertainment center with big screen TV. Master bath has custom maple cabinets. The family room/den has custom built-ins, huge game room with big screen TV and stereo system. High ceilings with custom sky lights and entertainer~~~s backyard with pool and one-of-a-kind custom built-in barbeque area.
Surprising thing about this home when reviewing the property records, The Game was assigned a Notice of Trustee's sale which means that The Game had fallen behind on his payments and was about to be foreclosed with the notice dated on January 19, 2010 and the trustee's sale to be held at the county courthouse steps on February 8, 2010. This sale was later cancelled as it appeared that The Game cleared some of his outstanding debts.

In addition to the Glendale home, it appears if my research is correct that The Game also maintains a home in the Porter Ranch area north of the 118 Freeway which I am not sure if he lives there, was originally purchased for family, and/or if he plans to move here after selling the Glendale home. This home measures 3 Beds/3 Baths on 2,449 sqft built in 2006. This home was purchased on May 31, 2007 for $875,000 just slightly past the peak of the last housing bubble. Similar to the Glendale home, this home was also slapped with a notice of trustee's sale on September 21, 2009 with an sale date scheduled on October 13, 2009 that was also later cancelled which I guess The Game cleared any outstanding debts at that time.

We wish good luck to The Game in offloading his Glendale home and hopefully he calls Porter Ranch home to help liven things up in this quiet and sleepy part of the SFV.

Fischer is no stranger to the SFV as she previously lived in another Studio City home with her ex-husband James Gunn who is now the sole owner of that home. Celeb R.E.: Former Baseball Super Agent Dennis Gilbert Lists Calabasas Mansion

    Images courtesy Westside Estate Agency
Back on September 30, 2013, the always informative Lauren Beale at Los Angeles Times Hot Property revealed that former baseball super agent, Dennis Gilbert, has listed his Calabasas mansion for sale for the current asking price of $5,985,000 which was originally listed for $6,395,000 on May 3, 2013.

Gilbert started playing baseball for Gardena High School and Los Angeles City College and later minor league baseball for 4 years. Gilbert's career in baseball was short lived and transitioned to the insurance business. After the insurance business blossomed, Gilbert became a baseball agent making big deals for the biggest stars like Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla, and Jose Canseco. Gilbert retired from the agent business in 1999 to focus on insurance. You can read more about Gilbert who was close to buying the Dodgers in 2011 at the Daily News

The home measures 7 Beds/9 Baths on 11,189 sqft on a total lot size of 3.09 acres built in 1990. This home is literally at the border of Hidden Hills, the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park (home to some of Hollywood's famous animals), and David Hasselhoff's new crib. The listing description states:
Spectacular almost 4 acre trophy estate located up a long gated private driveway. Incredible estate-like grounds, beautiful gardens, Koi ponds, 5 hole putting green, spectacular swimmer's pool, rolling lawns, and lighted championship-size tennis court. Truly beautiful European villa filled with light and spectacular rooms for large scale entertaining. Grand 2-story entrance, living room, formal dining room, family room/billiard room, bar, screening room, gym, gourmet Chef's kitchen with center island, fabulous master suite with enormous walk-in closets and sumptuous marble baths, steam and sauna. Amazing guest/family bedrooms all with their own private baths and closets. Too many amenities to list. An incredible estate perfect for a celebrity or those who entertain on a large scale. Also available for lease.
Gilbert last purchased this home on July 27, 1990 for $1,041,363 which if sold at today's asking price would translate into a gain of $4,970,637 before all expenses. The reason for the sale is that Gilbert has already purchased a Holmby Hills estate for $8 million probably to be close to his Beverly Hills Insurance office

Gilbert is no stranger to the San Fernando Valley as he also owns a modest Woodland Hills home measuring 3 Beds/2 Baths on 1,964 sqft on a total lot size of 8,106 sqft built in 1957 and purchased on June 19, 1998 for $278,000. This home is just down the street from his Calabasas home. Additionally, he owns a Mid-City home that measures 2 Beds/2 Baths on 1,374 sqft built in 1925.
